RESUMEN: Determinar el grado de concentración constituye un elemento fundamental para conocer la estructura organizativa de una industria. A través de este trabajo, haré una comparativa estática del grado de concentración de los sectores industriales que componen la economía de Cantabria, así como de la economía de la región en su conjunto. Para ello, utilizaré los principales índices de concentración propuestos en la literatura.
Analizaré los distintos valores de concentración en los años 2008 y 2019 a través de dos variables: por un lado, los ingresos de explotación y por otro lado el número de empleados. Asimismo, analizaré cómo utilizar una u otra variable puede influir en el resultado obtenido.
De esta forma, podremos conocer cuáles son los sectores con mayor poder de mercado y cómo este puede ir variando con los años. También, podremos saber cuáles son las empresas que más destacan en cada sector y conocer cómo evolucionan con el paso de los años. De esta forma, coeficientes de concentración altos nos indicarían que unas pocas empresas o sectores dominan el mercado favoreciendo así la cooperación entre los mismos, y ratios de concentración bajos indicarían una mayor competencia.
Además, a través de este estudio, que apunta a una economía regional en general de baja concentración y con una alta incertidumbre podemos obtener una aproximación de la estructura de la industria de Cantabria y conocer así, si la actividad industrial de Cantabria está enfocada a unos pocos sectores o si por el contrario está más diversificada.
ABSTRACT: Determine the degree of concentration constitutes a fundamental element to know the organizational structure of an industry. Through this work, I will make a static comparison of the degree of concentration of the industrial sectors that make up the economy of Cantabria, as well as of the economy of the region. To do this, I will use the main concentration indices proposed in the literature.
I will analyse the different concentration values in the years 2008 and 2019 through two variables: on the one hand, the operating income and on the other hand the number of employees. Likewise, I will analyse how using one or another variable can influence the result obtained.
In this way, we will be able to find out which are the sector with the greatest market power and how this can vary over the years. Also, we will be able to know which are the companies that stand out the most in each sector and learn how they evolve over the years. In this way, high concentration ratios would indicate that a few companies or sectors dominate the market, thus favouring cooperation between them, and low concentration ratios would indicate greater competition.
In addition, through this study, which points a regional economy in general with low concentration and with high uncertainty, we can obtain an approximation of the structure of the industry in Cantabria and thus find out if the industrial activity in Cantabria is focused on a few sectors or if for the contrary is more diversified.
