Abstract

RESUMEN. Nexo territorial entre Cantabria y el País Vasco, Castro Urdiales ha formado parte en varias ocasiones del señorío de Vizcaya y desde el siglo XIX está integrado funcionalmente en la aglomeración urbano-industrial de Bilbao. El municipio desempeña cada vez más una función residencial en dicha aglomeración, en tanto que la capital ha evolucionado económica y funcionalmente hasta convertirse en una pequeña ciudad de servicios, modificándose por ello la tradicional estructura y morfología urbanas propias de una "villa marinera".

RÉSUMÉ. Avoisinant le Pays Basque, Castro Urdiales a fait partie à plusieurs reprises du domaine de Biscaye et, dés le XIXe siècle, est intégré fonctionnellment dans l'agglomération urbaine et industrielle de Bilbao. La commune joue de plus en plus une fonction résidentielle envers celle-lá, tandis que la capitale est devenue une petite ville de services, tant du point de vue économique que fonctionnel, ce qui a entraîné la modification de sa structure et morphologie traditionnelles, propres à un "bourg de pêcheurs".

ABSTRACT. Exerting as a territorial nexus between Cantabria and the Basque Country, Castro Urdiales took part historically of Biscay domain in several occasions, and is functionally integrated into the Bilbao urban-industrial agglomeration since the 20th century. The municipality performs a residential function towards that metropolitan area, while the capital has become a small city of services, both from economic and functional points of view, and thus evolving from their "fishing burg" traditional structure and morphology.
