Migración gallega: casos peninsulares y de ultramar (1850-1989)

Abstract

RESUMEN Los siglos XIX y XX destacan por el importante movimiento de población que se realiza entre países. El pueblo gallego, que parte de una actividad migratoria ya importante en los siglos previos, ahora se posiciona como uno de los grupos con mayor peso dentro del fenómeno. Sus peculiaridades regionales, su cultura marítima y la búsqueda de una mejor situación económica y social, entre otras cuestiones, impulsaron a este grupo a realizar uno de los éxodos más importantes de este tiempo. Cádiz, Cuba, Argentina, Perú y Venezuela son cinco regiones o países receptores de esta inmigración que destacan cada uno por la interacción de sus políticas y pobladores con las diferentes estrategias de integración y protección de los nuevos inquilinos.

ABSTRACT The 19th and 20th centuries stand out for the important population movement that takes place between countries. The Galician people, who started from an already important migratory activity in previous centuries, is now positioned as one of the groups with the greatest weight within the phenomenon. Regional peculiarities, maritime culture and the search for a better economic and social situation, among other issues, prompted this group to carry out one of the most important exoduses of this time. Cadiz, Cuba, Argentina, Peru and Venezuela are five regions or countries that receive this immigration.
