Abstract

RESUMEN.Se presenta el estudio tecnológico, geomorfológico y cronológico de un yacimiento del Paleolítico Medio sobre terraza fluvial en la cuenca del río Híjar, afluente del Ebro, en el valle de Campoo de Suso (Cantabria). La terraza en la que se sitúa el yacimiento es la más antigua del sistema local de terrazas, cronológicamente anterior al máximo glaciar. Sobre esta terraza se ha realizado el estudio de 370 artefactos. La industria comparte las características de dos mundos paleolíticos clásicos, el Achelense y el Musteriense, lo que justificaría la denominación de Epiachelense.

ABSTRACT.The goal of this paper is the technological, geomorphological and chronological study of a Middle Paleolithic site on a fluvial terrace on the river Hijar, a tributary of the River Ebro in the valley of Campoo de Suso, Cantabria (North of Spain). The terrace on wich the site is situated is the oldest in the area. Chronogically it is previous to the maximum glacial phase and the industry shares characteristics with two classic Plaleolithic worlds, the Acheulian and the Mousterian wich would justify naming it “Epiacheulian.”
