Análisis económico y financiero del sector hotelero en las Islas Canarias y Baleares

Abstract

RESUMEN: El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar en profundidad la situación actual del sector turístico español, en concreto del sector hotelero, a través de un estudio a nivel teórico de la situación actual del sector y, por otra parte, un estudio económico y financiero. Con ello lo que se busca es conocer el sector de mayor peso en la economía española a través de su evolución durante varios años y, así, poder formular unas conclusiones y recomendaciones propias. Se ha escogido el sector turístico al ser uno de los más importantes para la economía mundial y, sobre todo, para la española, debido al nivel de ingresos que recauda y el empleo que genera. España es uno de los 10 países más visitados alrededor de todo el mundo, dejando un PIB turístico muy elevado en comparación con otros sectores. Estos ingresos turísticos generados provienen, en gran proporción, de la industria hotelera y de alojamientos. Por otra parte, como dentro del territorio español existen grandes diferencias de una zona a otra en términos turísticos, se ha decidido analizar la actividad hotelera en dos de las regiones con mayor peso en este sector: las islas Canarias y las islas Baleares. Para el análisis económico y financiero se han calculado una serie de ratios utilizando para ello una muestra de los establecimientos hoteleros pertenecientes a los dos archipiélagos utilizados. Esta muestra es de las 100 empresas que mayores ingresos recaudan en cada zona turística y se ha elegido con la base de datos Sistema de Análisis de Balances Ibéricos (SABI). A lo largo de todo el análisis se hace hincapié en el efecto que la pandemia de COVID-19 ha tenido en el sector en el año 2020. Con la llegada del virus, se deja atrás una etapa de alto crecimiento en el sector turístico y hotelero tanto en número de huéspedes como en resultados generados.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper is to analyse in depth the current situation of the Spanish tourism sector, specifically the hotel sector, through a theoretical study of the current situation of the sector and, on the other hand, an economic and financial study. The aim is to gain knowledge of the sector with the greatest weight in the Spanish economy through its evolution over several years and, thus, to be able to formulate conclusions and recommendations of its own. The tourism sector has been chosen as it is one of the most important for the world economy and, above all, for the Spanish economy due to the level of income it generates and the employment it generates. Spain is one of the 10 most visited countries in the world, generating a very high tourist GDP compared to other sectors. This tourist income generated comes, to a large extent, from the hotel and accommodation industry. On the other hand, as there are great differences from one area to another in terms of tourism within Spain, it has been decided to analyse hotel activity in two of the regions with the greatest weight in this sector: the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands. For the economic and financial analysis, a series of ratios have been calculated using a sample of hotel establishments belonging to the two archipelagos used. This sample is of the 100 companies with the highest revenues in each tourist area and has been chosen using the database “Sistema de Análisis de Balances Ibéricos” (SABI). Throughout the analysis, emphasis is placed on the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the sector in 2020. With the arrival of the virus, a period of high growth in the tourism and hotel sector in terms of both the number of guests and the results generated is left behind.
