La familia y la mujer musulmana en la España medieval (S. XIII-XV).

Abstract

En este ensayo se presenta una visión de la situación de las mujeres musulmanas en la España medieval de los siglos XIII y el XV. A partir del acercamiento a su realidad cotidiana dentro de las comunidades marginales (al igual que los judíos) a las que pertenecieron dentro de la sociedad cristiana dominante, pondremos el foco de atención en las diferentes actividades y funciones que desempeñaron dentro y fuera del hogar familiar. Trataremos con ello de matizar la realidad confirmada por la historiografía de que su situación de subordinación masculina, inferioridad, falta de autoridad y segregación al ámbito doméstico, implicaba necesariamente el desempeño de un papel secundario en el desarrollo socio-económico y cultural de sus comunidades. De este modo, se redimensiona su contribución en un período de progresiva marginalidad para las comunidades mudéjares hispanas.

This essay presents an overview of the situation of Muslim women in medieval Spain between the 13th and 15th centuries. From the approach to their daily reality within the marginal communities (like the Jewish) to which they belonged within the dominant Christian society, we will focus on the different activities and functions they performed inside and outside the family home. In doing so, we will try to qualify the reality confirmed by historiography that their situation of male subordination, inferiority, lack of authority and segregation to the domestic sphere, necessarily implied the performance of a secondary role in the socio-economic and cultural development of their communities. In this way, their contribution in a period of progressive marginalization for the Hispanic Mudejar communities is re-dimensioned.
