Desarrollo de las clases medias en Chile. Período 2006-2015

Abstract

RESUMEN: En este Trabajo de Fin de Grado (TFG) se analiza la evolución de la clase media chilena y sus subdivisiones en el periodo 2006-2015, dando cuenta de la heterogeneidad de la estratificación social chilena. La primera parte del trabajo revisa la literatura especializada en relación con el concepto de clases sociales, algunas de las mediciones existentes para definir a la clase media, la historia de la clase media en Chile desde principios del siglo XX hasta la primera década del siglo XXI y como se encuentra la clase media en Chile en la actualidad mediante tres variables tales como: ingreso, educación y ocupación. La segunda parte del trabajo desarrolla el análisis empírico, donde a través de una serie de variables se pretende averiguar si ha crecido o decrecido la clase media en el periodo estudiado. Esclareciendo en la parte metodológica cuáles son los términos para identificar a la clase media y a sus subdivisiones. Y, para finalizar, se pretende responder a la pregunta central del tema a través de los datos previamente recopilados. Además, en esta parte se reitera la importancia de un análisis sobre la clase media, exponiéndolo desde un carácter general hasta la importancia en el caso de Chile. Continua esta parte del ensayo con una breve exposición de los resultados de las variables y, a través de estas, se consigue dar una respuesta a la hipótesis. Sin embargo, no se puede acabar el trabajo sin hacer hincapié en las limitaciones y dificultades a los que se ha visto sometido este análisis, pero a pesar de las complicaciones se ha podido trabajar con una base sólida. El trabajo clausura exponiendo una serie de medidas que pueden resultar útiles para Chile, en busca de mejorar su clase media y asentar a una parte importante de su población en una zona “cómoda” de la pirámide social.

ABSTRACT: This project aims to analyse the evolution of the Chilean middle class and its subdivisions in the period 2006-2015. To do this, the work is organised into several parts to give the reader a point of view of the heterogeneity of Chilean social stratification and how complicated its analysis is, but, nevertheless, if a series of conclusions can be found that provide answers to the analysis. The first part is a more literary version where the following terms are manifested: The concept of social classes through various authors, some of the existing ones detected to define the middle class, the history of the middle class in Chile since the beginning of the century XX until the first decade of the XXI century and how is the middle class in Chile today through three variables such as: Income, education, and occupation. The second block goes deeper into an empirical part, where through a series of variables it is desired to be able to find out if there has been a growth or decrease in the middle class in the period studied. Clarifying in the methodological part what are the terms to identify the middle class and its subdivisions. And, finally, it is intended to answer the central question of the topic through the previously collected data. In addition, in this part the importance of an analysis of the middle class is reiterated, exposing it from a general nature to its importance in the case of Chile. This part of the essay continues with a brief exposition of the results of the variables, and, through these, it is possible to give an answer to the hypothesis. However, the work cannot be completed without exaggerating the limitations and difficulties to which this analysis has been subjected, but despite the complications, it has been possible to work on a solid basis. The work closes by exposing a series of measures that may be useful for Chile, in search of improving its middle class and settling an important part of its population in a "comfortable" area of the social pyramid.
