La onirología en el Egipto ptolemaico y romano

Abstract

RESUMEN: En el Libro hierático de los sueños, un “diccionario” onírico escrito en caracteres jeroglíficos cursivos entre el 2052-1778 a.C., ya se aprecia la importancia asumida por los sueños en la milenaria cultura egipcia bien como forma de comunicación con las divinidades y con el Reino de los difuntos, bien como profecías y vaticinios considerados capaces de influir en los acontecimientos políticos, o bien como prácticas curativas de tipo incubatorio. El primer objetivo de nuestro trabajo es realizar un estudio que recoja la rica y variada concepción onirológica egipcia a través de fuentes principalmente literarias con el fin de comprender la transcendencia de estas creencias religiosas y culturales. En segundo lugar nos centraremos en la práctica iatromántico-incubatoria de época ptolemaica y romana que exploraremos a través de fuentes epigráficas y arqueológicas intentando descubrir elementos de continuidad y fractura y posible sincretismo con prácticas incubatorias de otros entornos culturales.

ABSTRACT: In the hieratic Book of Dreams, a dream “dictionary” written in cursive hieroglyphic characters between 2052-1778 B.C., we can already see the importance assumed by dreams in the millenary Egyptian culture, either as a form of communication with the divinities and with the realm of the dead, or as prophecies and predictions considered capable of influencing political events, or as curative practices of an incubatory type, can already be appreciated. The aim of our work is in primis to carry out a study that gathers the rich and varied Egyptian onirological conception through mainly literary sources in order to understand the transcendence of these religious and cultural beliefs. Secondly, we will focus on the iatromantic-incubatory practices of Ptolemaic and Roman times, which we will explore through epigraphic and archaeological sources, trying to discover elements of continuity or fracture, and possible syncretism with incubatory practices in other cultural environments.
