Los juegos panhelénicos: un símbolo de unión en la antigua Grecia

Abstract

RESUMEN: Los Juegos Panhelénicos son aquellos Juegos en los que se reunían griegos de toda la ecúmene mediterránea para competir por conseguir prestigio tanto en el mundo griego como en sus propias ciudades. Se celebraban cada determinado tiempo y eran cuatro en total: los Juegos Olímpicos, los Délficos o Píticos, los Ístmicos y los Nemeos. Este trabajo se va a centrar en describir el desarrollo de estos Juegos, así como los diferentes deportes que tenían lugar en las competiciones. Además, se analizará su origen como parte de los rituales religiosos de las diferentes poleis, apoyándose, para ello, en el ejemplo representado por una de las fiestas más importantes de Grecia, las Panateneas de Atenas. Todo ello nos permitirá ver y comprender la importancia de estas competiciones, y del deporte, en general dentro de la sociedad griega, tanto en la educación de los más jóvenes como en la religión. Por otro lado, se podrán observar aspectos y valores presentes en el origen de estos Juegos que siguen vigentes en los Juegos Olímpicos actuales.

ABSTRACT: The Panhellenic Games are those Games in which Greeks from all over the Mediterranean ecumenical area met to compete for prestige both in the Greek world and in their own cities. They were held every few years and there were four in total: the Olympic Games, the Delphic or Pythian Games, the Isthmian Games and the Nemean Games. This TFG will focus on describing the development of these events, as well as the different sports that took place in the competitions. It will also analyse their origin as part of the religious rituals of the different poleis, based on the example of one of the most important Greek festivals, the Panathenaean Games in Athens. This will allow us to see and understand the importance of these competitions, and of sport in general in Greek society, both in the education of young people and in religion. On the other hand, we will be able to observe aspects and values present in their origin that are still present in today's Olympic Games.
