El comercio exterior castellano en el siglo XVI: las exportaciones a través de los puertos cántabros y vascos

Abstract

RESUMEN: El presente trabajo analiza la exportación de mercancías de origen castellano con destino al espacio atlántico septentrional, llevadas a cabo a través de los puertos costeros cántabros y vascos a lo largo del siglo XVI. El análisis parte de un estudio de la producción de las principales mercancías exportadas, para examinar en un segundo momento la forma en la que los actores comerciales organizan el tráfico de estas materias desde que son adquiridas por los mismos hasta que son embarcadas y trasladadas a los diferentes puntos de venta allende sus fronteras. El trabajo también aborda otros asuntos interesantes como las finanzas, los gastos que el comerciante tenía que asumir, así como las distintas dificultades naturales y antrópicas que tenia que sortear para llevar a cabo esta operación

ABSTRACT: This paper analyzes the export of merchandise of Castilian origin destined for the North Atlantic area, carried out through the Cantabrian and Basque coastal ports throughout the 16th century. The analysis starts from a study of the production of the main exported merchandise, to examine in a second moment the way in which the commercial actors organize the traffic of these materials from the time they are acquired by them until they are shipped and transferred to the markets. The work also addresses other interesting issues such as finances, the expenses that the merchant had to assume, as well as the different natural and anthropic difficulties that he had to overcome to carry out this operation.
