Métodos antipiratería en el buque Madrid Spirit

Abstract

La piratería y el robo a mano armada en el mar es una actividad delictiva organizada y persistente que es común en muchas partes del mundo. Los atacantes suelen ser agresivos y exponen a las víctimas a la violencia y el abuso. El estudio ha demostrado que la aplicación de las recomendaciones más adelante citadas ofrece una ventaja al barco a detectar, evitar, detener o retrasar los ataques. Este trabajo Fin de Grado es una investigación que tiene como objetivo principal el proponer métodos de antipiratería a ser aplicados en el buque Madrid Spirit (Gasero), para garantizar la seguridad de la nave, tripulación y las cargas transportadas en el Golfo de Nigeria y Costas de Somalia. Para lo cual se hizo necesario la consulta bibliográfica para definir el estado actual de conocimiento en lo referente a los aspectos teórico técnicos, históricos y legales de la piratería de los buques. Se consideraron y evaluaron las características bajo las cuales navega el buque Madrid Spirit, y la selección de los métodos antipiratería que más se adecuan a su situación. La principal conclusión a la que se llegó durante la investigación fue que, si bien el buque objeto de estudio posee medidas contra los actos de piratería, se hace necesario la implementación de medidas adicionales.

Piracy and armed robbery at sea is an organised and persistent criminal activity prevalent in many parts of the world. Attackers are often aggressive and subject their victims to violence and ill treatment. The study has shown that the application of the recommendations cited below offers an advantage to the ship to detect, avoid, deter or delay attacks. This Academic Essay to finish the Degree Studies project is an investigation that aims to propose anti-piracy methods to be applied on the Madrid Spirit (gas carrier) ship, to guarantee the safety of the ship, crew and cargo transported in the Gulf of Nigeria and the Coasts of Somalia; for which the bibliographic consultation was necessary to define the current state of knowledge regarding the theoretical, technical, historical and legal aspects of ship piracy. Characteristics were considered and evaluated under the case study method, where the characteristics under which the ship Madrid Spirit sails are considered and evaluated, and the selection of the anti-piracy methods that best suit its situation. The main conclusion reached during the investigation was that although the vessel under study has passive measures against acts of piracy, it is necessary to implement additional measures.
