Tiempos de crisis, tiempos de proyectos: el proyectismo español en la crisis del ejército del Antiguo Régimen

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene por objetivo estudiar los diversos proyectos de reforma de las academias militares durante el reinado de Carlos IV. Basándonos en que tanto la guerra, dado el grado de tecnificación que había alcanzado el mundo bélico, como la crisis de la monarquía potenciaron los planes de reforma en el ejército, considerado un pilar para sostener la monarquía. Gracias a ello, se va a comprobar qué características tenían los proyectos, con el objetivo de estudiar cuál era el ideal de ejército que manejaba el gobierno de la monarquía. Además, se prestará especial atención a quiénes escribían estos proyectos y qué modelos consideraban más idóneos para el ejército del rey español. Todo lo anterior nos muestra un interés de la monarquía por fomentar la formación de la oficialidad y potenciar el peso del mérito individual en la carrera militar.

This aim of this article is to study the reform plans of military academies during the reign of Carlos IV. Bearing in mind that war, together with the high modernization of technic skills of war, and the crisis of the Hispanic monarchy promoted some projects to reform its army, which was thought to be a fundamental pillar. All these reasons allow us to know the characteristics of the reform projects in order to understand the ideal army that the monarchy wanted. Moreover, we put the focus on who wrote the projects, and which were the role models for the Spanish army. These show us the attention paid by the Spanish monarchy to the instruction of officers and promote the individual merit in the army.
