Literatura y legislación: la función política de la heresiología a finales del siglo IV

Abstract

Resumen: Los catálogos «contra todas las herejías», compuestos desde finales del siglo ii hasta el siglo v, nos han transmitido gran cantidad de información sobre las vidas y creencias doctrinales de muchos personajes y grupos cristianos censurados como herejes. En estrecha relación con este tipo de literatura, hubo una abundante producción jurídica que, a partir de Constantino, arremetía aún más directamente contra los disidentes religiosos. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en comparar el discurso heresiológico que presenta la literatura heresiológica y las leyes De Haereticis del Codex Theodosianus (xvi, 5) para determinar en qué medida la labor literaria refuerza a la legislativa y/o viceversa. En cuanto a los tratados antiheréticos, estudiaremos principalmente el Diversarum hereseon liber de Filastrio de Brescia (ca. 380-390), debido a la proximidad cronológica con algunas leyes del corpus teodosiano y, además, por tratarse de una obra poco explorada por la investigación moderna.

Abstract: The catalogues «against all heresies», written from the end of the second century to the 5th century, have transmitted to us numerous information about the lives and doctrinal beliefs of many characters and Christian groups censored as heretics. In close relation to this type of literature, there was an abundant legal production that, from Constantine, lashed out even more directly against religious dissidents. The objective of this study is to compare the heresiological discourse presented by the heresiological literature and the laws De Haereticis of the Codex Theodosianus (xvi, 5) to determine the extent to which literary work reinforces the legislative and/or vice versa. With regard to antiheretic treatises, we will mainly study the Diversarum hereseon liber of Filastrius of Brescia (c. 380-390), due to the chronological proximity to some laws of the Theodosian corpus and, moreover, because it is a work little explored by modern research.
