Los orígenes culturales, los mitos y la utilización de las tradiciones históricas sobre la nación en el fascismo y en el primer franquismo

Abstract

RESUMEN: En términos políticos, quienes a través de un partido, de una dictadura o de un régimen encarnan el poder aspirante a gobernar, más aún quienes lo hacen por primera vez, buscan legitimarse mediante lo retrospectivo, y cuanto mayor sea esa retrospección respecto a un presente concreto, más sólida es la legitimación; aún más: esa solidez es directamente proporcional a las glorias del pasado nacional. En el horizonte de problemas que hemos abordado en nuestra investigación, uno de ellos, sin duda alguna el que ocupa su centralidad, es indagar sobre qué acontecimientos del pasado tomaron como bases legitimadoras de sus respectivos sistemas los dirigentes, intelectuales y publicistas del fascismo en Italia y del franquismo en España. Tratarían éstos, en suma, de hallar en el pasado, en palabras de Federico Chabod, el “principio vital” de ese sistema, en este caso el de sus respectivas naciones. Y en esta hazaña, los pensadores de los dos regímenes cambiaron intencionadamente la semántica de la palabra Historia-que, en realidad, debería ser un conocimiento contrastado de los hechos pretéritos-identificándola con la exaltación de sus mitos nacionales. Este minucioso trabajo de análisis y de discernimiento entre historia como ciencia por un lado, e historia narrada con fines propagandísticos, por otro, nos ha permitido llevar a cabo una progresiva tarea de desmitificación de los relatos fascistas y franquistas según el orden de los personajes históricos y de los correspondientes sucesos que íbamos progresivamente encontrando. Además, el análisis del fascismo y del primer franquismo, dadas sus analogías, nos ha permitido realizar un ejercicio de comparatismo sobre como los dos regímenes mencionados utilizaron sus respectivos pasados nacionales en función de las exigencias del presente.

ABSTRACT: In political terms, those who through a party, a dictatorship or a regime incarnate the power aspiring to govern, even more so those who do it for the first time, seek to legitimize themselves through hindsight, and the greater that retrospection with respect to a present concrete, more solid is the legitimation; even more: that solidity is directly proportional to the glories of the national past. On the horizon of problems that we have addressed in our research, one of them, undoubtedly the one that occupies its centrality, is to investigate what past events took as legitimating bases of their respective systems the leaders, intellectuals and publicists of fascism in Italy and of the Franco regime in Spain. In short, they would try to find in the past, in the words of Federico Chabod, the "vital principle” of that system, in this case that of their respective nations. And, in this feat, the thinkers of the two regimes intentionally changed the semantics of the word "history", -which, in reality, should be a contrasted knowledge of past facts- identifying it with the exaltation of its national myths. This meticulous work of analysis and discernment between history as science on the one hand and history narrated for propaganda purposes, on the other hand, it has allowed us to carry out a progressive task of demystifying the fascist and francoist stories according to the order of the historical figures and the corresponding events that we were progressively encountering. Furthermore, the analysis of fascism and first francoism, given its analogies, has allowed us to carry out a comparative exercise on how these two regimes used their respective national pasts depending on current requirements.
