Caracterización y evolución de la vegetación en el fondo de valle del río Saja desde mediados del siglo XX a la segunda década del siglo XXI

Abstract

RESUMEN Esta tesis nace de la voluntad de conocer, con mayor profundidad, un territorio tan notorio en Cantabria como es el valle del Saja. Aunque esta área no resulta muy extensa en relación con otros ríos peninsulares, manifiesta grandes contrastes altitudinales y orográficos, litológicos, climáticos, de comportamiento hidrológico y de intervención antrópica. Todo ello se traduce en una amplia diversidad de la cubierta vegetal, con particularidades internas, no sólo desde el punto de vista florístico, sino también de distribución dentro del fondo de valle. A pesar de su relevancia en el conjunto cántabro, no existen estudios específicos de vegetación a escala del conjunto del fondo de valle, tanto desde una perspectiva diacrónica desde los años cincuenta (la evolución del paisaje vegetal), como de análisis y caracterización de las múltiples comunidades vegetales. Esta investigación pretende, al menos, completar ese vacío de información existente, por un lado, y abrir la puerta a la realización de futuros estudios similares en el territorio cantábrico.

ABSTRACT This PhD thesis is the result of the desire to gain a deeper knowledge of the Saja valley, a notorious territory in Cantabria (Spain). Although this area is not very extensive in relation to other peninsular rivers, it shows great altitudinal and orographic, lithological, climatic, hydrological behaviour and anthropic intervention contrasts. All this translates into a wide diversity of the plant cover, with internal particularities, not only from the floristic point of view, but also in terms of distribution within the valley bottom. Despite its relevance in Cantabria as a whole, there are no specific studies of vegetation on the scale of the valley bottom, both from a diachronic perspective since the 1950s (the evolution of the vegetation landscape), as well as the analysis and characterisation of the multiple plant communities. This research aims, on the one hand, to fill this information gap and, on the other, to open the door to similar studies in the Cantabrian territory in the future.
