El asesinato de Orlando Letelier dentro del contexto de la Doctrina de Seguridad Nacional en el Chile de Pinochet

Abstract

RESUMEN: El Chile del último tercio del siglo XX se caracteriza por la irrupción, desarrollo y pervivencia de la dictadura militar de Augusto Pinochet. Además de la puesta en marcha de un proyecto económico neoliberal de la mano de los Chicago Boys, el otro gran elemento que define al régimen es la represión política desarrollada en el marco de la Doctrina de Seguridad Nacional que Estados Unidos despliega por todo el continente americano. En este contexto nace un plan de coordinación represiva denominado Operación Cóndor que, puesto en marcha por las dictaduras del Cono Sur con el apoyo de Estados Unidos, tiene como objetivo acabar con cualquier elemento calificado como subversivo tanto dentro como fuera de las propias fronteras. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar, dentro de todo este contexto, una de las acciones más destacadas de la Operación Cóndor: el asesinato en Washington D.C. de Orlando Letelier, ex Ministro chileno en la etapa de la Unidad Popular

ABSTRACT: Chile in the last third of the 20th century is characterized by the irruption, development and survival of the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. In addition to the launch of a neoliberal economic project led by the Chicago Boys, the other great element that defines the regime is the political repression developed within the framework of the National Security Doctrine that the United States deploys throughout the American continent. In this context, a repressive coordination plan called Operación Condor was born, which, launched by the dictatorships of the Southern Cone with the support of the United States, aims to end any element classified as subversive both inside and outside the borders themselves. The objective of this work is to analyze, within this whole context, one of the most prominent actions of Operation Condor: the assassination in Washington D.C. de Orlando Letelier, former Chilean Minister at the Unidad Popular stage.
