¿Por qué moría tanta gente en Santander? La gripe de 1918 – 1920

Abstract

RESUMEN: La gripe española ha sido una de las pandemias que más ha afectado a la humanidad a lo largo de nuestra historia. Está considerada por muchos como la más grave de todas por afectar a muchas partes del mundo y matar a cerca de cincuenta millones de personas. Hoy en día sigue hablándose de cifras incluso mayores, pero esta gripe no solo se caracterizó por esto, sino que algo importante entre todos los estudios que tratan la gripe es, el origen y cómo afectó a la población más joven dentro de la adulta. La llegada de esta gripe al mundo se estudiará mediante una recopilación de distintos autores sobre el tema con su posterior análisis de los datos en cuanto a morbilidad y mortalidad pero el objetivo de este trabajo es intentar llegar a una respuesta para las preguntas de ¿cuándo llegó esta gripe a la comunidad autónoma de Cantabria?, ¿cómo afectó esta gripe a la ciudad de Santander?, ¿cuántas muertes ocasionó entre 1918 y 1920? para dar respuesta a estas preguntas llevaremos a cabo un estudio del origen de la gripe en Cantabria y un análisis de los datos aportados por el Boletín Oficial de la Provincia para la ciudad de Santander.

ABSTRACT: The Spanish flu has been one of the pandemics that has affected humanity the most throughout our history. It is considered by many as the most serious of all, affecting many parts of the world and killing about fifty million people. Today there is still talk of even higher figures, but this flu was not only characterized by this, something important among all the studies that treat the flu is, the origin and how it affected the younger population within the adult. The arrival of this flu to the world will be studied through a compilation of different authors on the subject with their subsequent analysis of the data in terms of morbidity and mortality, but the objective of this work is to try to arrive at an answer to the questions of when did this flu reach the autonomous community of Cantabria? How did this flu affect the city of Santander? How many deaths did it cause between 1918 and 1920? To answer these questions we will carry out a study of the origin of the flu in Cantabria and an analysis of the data provided by the Official Gazette of the Province for the city of Santander
