Análisis de eficiencia del fútbol español

Abstract

RESUMEN: En este trabajo, trataremos de realizar un análisis acerca de la eficiencia de una muestra compuesta por la mayoría de los clubes con mayor impacto en el fútbol español. Esto toma especial importancia debido a la cantidad ingente de dinero que ha ido expandiendo la dimensión del fútbol en Europa, donde cada mala decisión supone un gran impacto económico para los clubes y para su entorno. Para analizar aquellos clubes que son más eficientes transformando sus inputs en outputs, tomaremos diferentes datos acerca de estos clubes en el periodo comprendido entre 2007 y 2018. Estos serán el resultado clasificatorio, una variable que nos indica si el equipo asciende, se mantiene o desciende durante la presente temporada y los ingresos de explotación, datos que utilizaremos como outputs para calcular la eficiencia, y por otra parte la capacidad del estadio y el gasto en personal por temporada, los cuales utilizaremos como inputs. Con estos datos, utilizaremos el método DEA (data envelopment analysis), un método no paramétrico que utilizaremos para estimar fronteras de eficiencia, donde aquellos clubes que se encuentren a más distancia de la frontera resultarán más ineficientes, y viceversa. Resaltaremos aquellos resultados que resulten más llamativos y trataremos de darles explicación. Además, trataremos de buscar patrones entre clubes que obtengan resultados clasificatorios similares. ¿Qué equipo de los tres más grandes de España obtiene mejores resultados? ¿Cómo de eficientes resultan los equipos que frecuentan posiciones europeas? ¿Y los conjuntos que frecuentan las posiciones intermedias de la primera división? Además de analizar los datos de aquellos clubes de mayor renombre en nuestro país, también nos ha parecido interesante añadir equipos que alternan su presencia entre la primera división y la segunda división, y otros que militan en categorías más modestas de nuestro fútbol. Añadimos a estos equipos para ver si el hecho de tener una cantidad más reducida de inputs hace que los clubes modestos no puedan alcanzar los niveles de eficiencia de los clubes profesionales de mayor dimensión. Tras analizar estos datos, trataremos de razonar si los resultados son coherentes, y de qué manera podríamos desarrollar en mayor medida este análisis en un futuro

ABSTRACT: In this job, we will try to carry out an analysis about the efficiency of a sample made up of the majority of the clubs with the greatest impact on Spanish football. This is especially important due to the huge amount of money that has been expanding the dimension of football in Europe, where each bad decision has a great economic impact for the clubs and their environment. To analyze those clubs that are more efficient transforming their inputs into outputs, we will collect different data about these clubs in the period between 2007 and 2018. In one hand, these will be the qualifying result, a variable that tells us if the team is promoted, maintained or descended during the current season and the operating income, data that we will use as outputs to calculate efficiency, and on the other hand the capacity of the stadium and the expenditure on personnel per season, which we will use as inputs. With these data, we will use the DEA method (data envelopment analysis), a non-parametric method that we will use to estimate efficiency frontiers, where those clubs that are further from the border will be more inefficient, and vice versa. We will stand out those results that are more striking and we will try to explain them. In addition, we will try to find patterns between clubs that obtain similar qualifying results. Which of the three biggest teams in Spain gets the best results? How efficient are the teams that frequent European positions? And the teams that frequent the intermediate positions of the first division? In addition to analyzing the data of the most renowned clubs in our country, we have also found it interesting to add teams that alternate their presence between the first division and the second division, and others that are active in more modest categories of our football. We add these teams to see if having a smaller amount of inputs means that modest clubs cannot reach the efficiency levels of larger professional clubs. After analyzing this data, we will try to reason whether the results are consistent, and how we could develop this analysis in the future
