La teoría federalista en el proceso de integración europeo: el camino hacia una Europa federal

Abstract

RESUMEN: Históricamente han existido diferentes propuestas para abordar el proceso de integración europeo. La idea de una Europa federal supuso una de las primeras aproximaciones a la construcción de la Unión Europea y ha evolucionado paralelamente a ella. A lo largo de los ochenta años de vida de la unión, los federalistas han intentado avanzar hacia una Constitución europea que agrupase a todos los países bajo una entidad política supranacional integrando a todos en una única federación de Estados. El presente trabajo pretende analizar las características de dicho proyecto, así como realizar un recorrido histórico a lo largo de las diferentes propuestas de este tipo que se han presentado y saber en qué medida han contribuido a la construcción de lo que actualmente conocemos como Unión Europea.

ABSTRACT: Historically, there have been different proposals to address the European integration process. The idea of a federal Europe was one of the first approaches to the construction of the European Union and has evolved in parallel with it. Throughout the eighty years of the union's life, the federalists have tried to move towards a European Constitution that brings together all the countries under a supranational political entity, integrating all of them into a single federation of states. The present work aims to analyze the characteristics of this project, as well as to make a historical journey through the different proposals of this type that have been presented and to know to what extent they have contributed to the configuration of what we currently know as the European Union.
