Antonio Fernández Baladrón: los orígenes del Café Dromedario

Abstract

RESUMEN: En el año 1871, se constituyó la empresa “Antonio Fernández y compañía” que se dedicaba a la importación de productos coloniales como café, azúcar, aceite y vino, y con ésta nació Cafés El Dromedario, fundado por Antonio Fernández Baladrón. Antonio fue un comerciante de Santander que estuvo comprometido en varios proyectos. Veló por los intereses de los ciudadanos santanderinos y de los más necesitados, formó parte de la creación del Real Cuerpo de Bomberos Voluntarios, fue dos veces Presidente de la Cámara de comercio, colaboró en la gestión de administración del Hotel Real y del Palacio de la Magdalena, formó parte de Hacienda y fue Concejal del Ayuntamiento de Santander. Fue un hombre muy concienciado en su trabajo, y por ello fue tan respetado. Debido a esto y a todos sus actos bondadosos, don Antonio Fernández Baladrón fue una persona muy valorada y querida (Del Río, J, 1927) en la comunidad. Por ello se hará un estudio sobre su vida y sus familiares, haciendo hincapié en un trágico suceso que tuvo lugar el 6 de abril de 1892.

ABSTRACT: In 1871, the company "Antonio Fernández and company" was established, which was dedicated to the importation of colonial products such as coffee, sugar, oil and wine, and with it Cafés El Dromedario was born, founded by Antonio Fernández Baladrón. Antonio was a merchant from Santander who was involved in various projects. He watched over the interests of Santander citizens and those most in need, he was part of the creation of the Royal Voluntary Fire Department, he was twice President of the Chamber of Commerce, he collaborated in the management of the administration of the Royal Hotel and the Palace of the Magdalena, was part of the Treasury and was a Councilor for the Santander City Council. He was a very conscientious man in his work, and for this he was so respected.Due to this and all his kind acts, Don Antonio Fernández Baladrón was a very respected and loved person in the community (Del Río, J. <<PICK>>, 1927). For this reason, a study will be carried out on his life and his relatives, emphasizing a tragic event that took place on April 6, 1892.
