Condicionantes de género en el ámbito académico y profesional de la marina mercante en España

Abstract

Diferentes organismos relacionados con la Marina Mercante señalan la desigualdad de género existente en este sector y trabajan para ponerle fin. Este trabajo analiza la desigualdad de género en los grados y másteres de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Náutica de la Universidad de Cantabria en un periodo de tiempo estipulado; y además de evidenciar su existencia, ha mostrado que no está habiendo una evolución en cuanto al número de mujeres en estos estudios. De manera más general se ha examinado la diferencia en cuanto al porcentaje de hombres y mujeres pertenecientes al Colegio de Oficiales de la Marina Mercante Española, teniendo en cuenta que no es obligatorio colegirse, y se ha observado que las mujeres representan un 5% o menos del total de colegiados durante el periodo de tiempo establecido para el análisis. Con el fin de proporcionar evidencias y conocer la opinión acerca de esta desigualdad en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Náutica de la Universidad de Cantabria, se ha llevado a cabo una encuesta a su alumnado; resaltando que en general, las mujeres son más conscientes de la existencia de la desigualdad de género, mientras que hay una opinión más divida al respecto en los hombres. Por último, se ha recopilado información demostrando así la gran implicación de diferentes entidades para acabar con la brecha de género en el ámbito académico y laboral de este sector

Different organizations related to the Merchant Navy point out the existing gender gap in this sector and are working to put an end to it. This work assesses the gender inequality in degrees and masters of Nautical Higher Technical School of Cantabria’s University in a stipulated period; and besides showing its existence, it has proved that there is no evolution in the number of women in these studies. More generally, the difference in percentage of men and women belonging to the College of Officers of the Spanish Merchant Navy has been examined, considering that it is not compulsory to join, and it has been observed that women represent 5% or less of the total number of members during the period established for the analysis. A survey has been carried out among the students of Nautical Higher Technical School of Cantabria’s University to provide evidence and to know the opinion about this inequality; highlighting that in general, women are more aware of the existence gender gap, while there is a more divided opinion about it among men. Eventually, information has been compiled, thus demonstrating the great involvement of different entities to close the gender gap in the academic and labour field of this sector.
