Análisis del municipio de Piélagos, para la propuesta de un campeonato de surf mundial en las playas de Liencres

Abstract

RESUMEN: El surf es un deporte muy antiguo, el cual es practicado por personas de todo rango de edad, además de ser un deporte ocioso, es un importante atractivo turístico para lugares que poseen una costa y un mar abrupto, el cual crea unas condiciones idóneas para su práctica. Especialmente Cantabria cuenta con una gran oferta para este tipo de deporte, ya que posee tanto en verano como en invierno unas condiciones óptimas, con lo que además de suponer un factor de desarrollo económico, supone también un desestacionalizador para el turismo, en los lugares que reúnan las condiciones para su práctica. Cantabria y más concretamente el municipio de Liencres, el cual será el lugar de análisis de este trabajo, son conocidos como un lugar donde el surf tiene gran relevancia, por ello cada año se celebran diferentes campeonatos y pruebas de este deporte, tanto a nivel regional como a nivel nacional. El objetivo de este TFG es investigar y analizar si Cantabria, más concretamente Liencres reúne las condiciones y prestaciones necesarias para crear un evento de una envergadura mucho mayor, un campeonato a nivel mundial. Para ello no solo analizaremos las condiciones atmosféricas, de la mar y de las playas, sino que también comprobaremos si reúne una buena oferta turística para satisfacer las necesidades de los posibles participantes del evento, lo que supondría un factor de crecimiento económico para la ciudad.

ABSTRACT: Surfing is an age-old activity, enjoyed by people of all ages. Furthermore, it is an important tourist pull for areas with coastline and open sea, which create a fantastic environment in which this sporting activity may be carried out. Cantabria stands out for its wide offer in relation to this kind of sport, because both in summer and in winter it enjoys perfect climatic conditions. For this reason, surfing has become an important factor in the successful economic development of given areas. Cantabria and, in particular, the borough of Liencres, on which I will focus my analysis in this dissertation, are known as places where surfing is of great importance since competitions and championships are held here every year, both at regional and national level. The objective of this dissertation is to investigate whether Cantabria fulfills the conditions necessary to be able to host an event of a much larger size, such as a world championship event. In order to analyse Cantabria’s potential, this study will not only take into account the climatic conditions, the sea and the beaches, but will also seek to ascertain if Cantabria provides an adequate tourist offer to satisfy the requirements of the event’s participants. This analysis will lead to a conclusion as to whether such an event might become an economic growth factor for the borough.
