El uso de subtítulos para fomentar el autoaprendizaje del vocabulario de inglés en los estudiantes de Educación Secundaria

Abstract

RESUMEN Derivado de la importancia del aprendizaje de vocabulario en inglés en Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, el presente Trabajo de Fin de Máster indaga en los beneficios del subtitulado como herramienta para el aprendizaje autónomo de vocabulario en estudiantes de dicha etapa educativa. Para la consecución del objetivo principal, que consistía en promover el autoaprendizaje con el empleo del subtitulado como herramienta de apoyo para adquirir vocabulario en inglés, se llevó a cabo un estudio en 3º ESO constituido por tres pruebas y un cuestionario de valoración de la herramienta. Los resultados mostraron que todos los estudiantes que participaron en el estudio ampliaron su repertorio léxico a través de la visualización de material subtitulado de manera autónoma y la gran parte de ellos manifestaron que emplearían esta técnica en futuras ocasiones, tanto para adquirir vocabulario del aula como para ampliar su repertorio léxico de temáticas de su interés.

ABSTRACT Given the importance of English vocabulary learning in Secondary Education, this paper explores the benefits of subtitling as a tool for autonomous vocabulary learning in students at this educational level. In order to achieve the main objective, which was to promote self-learning using subtitling as a support tool to acquire vocabulary in English, a study was carried out in 3rd ESO consisting of three tests and a survey to assess the tool. The results showed that all the students who participated in the study expanded their lexical repertoire through the display of subtitled material in an autonomous way and most of them stated they would use this technique in the future, either to acquire classroom vocabulary or to expand their lexical repertoire on subjects of their interest
