Discapacidad y universidad: evaluación de la accesibilidad y usabilidad web de las universidades españolas del grupo G9

Abstract

RESUMEN: En este trabajo de fin de máster, se realiza un estudio cualitativo y cuantitativo para evaluar la accesibilidad y usabilidad de los portales web de las universidades públicas españolas del grupo G9. El objetivo principal de la investigación es comprobar el cumplimiento de la legislación actual en materia de la inclusión de personas con discapacidad en el ámbito de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TICs). La accesibilidad web evoluciona y mejora a la vez que se desarrollan las TICs y la legislación, esta última ha jugado un papel imprescindible para asegurar el diseño accesible y útil del contenido web. El estudio empírico se desarrolla analizando la accesibilidad web de modo manual y automático mediante la guía Easy Check y la herramienta TAW. El test de accesibilidad web comprueba el cumplimiento de las actuales pautas de accesibilidad al contenido web (WCAG 2.1). Por último, se desarrolla el análisis de usabilidad de la interfaz de usuario mediante una guía heurística basada en los 10 principios heurísticos de Jackob Nielsen (2005) y en la guía heurística de evaluación de sitios web de Hassan Montero y Martín (2003). Se trata de determinar si las universidades públicas españolas del grupo G9, a nivel académico, ofrecen la información sobre la universidad a través de su web de modo que puedan ser visitadas por todas las personas (estudiantes, PDI, PAS, usuarios de la web en general), independientemente de si tienen o no algún tipo de discapacidad. Desafortunadamente, los resultados no han sido tan buenos como cabría esperar del portal web de estas instituciones públicas, teniendo en cuenta la legislación actual en materia de accesibilidad web y derechos de las personas con discapacidad. Al no cumplir con todos los criterios de éxito del nivel mínimo de conformidad (A), las universidades del grupo G9 tienen mucho que mejorar en la accesibilidad y usabilidad de su sitio web para cumplir con la norma UNE-EN 301549:2019, el Real Decreto 1112/2018 y el Real Decreto Legislativo 1/2013.

ABSTRACT: In this master's degree final project, a qualitative and quantitative study is carried out to assess the accessibility and usability of the web portals of the Spanish public universities of the G9 group. The main objective of the research is to verify compliance with current legislation on the inclusion of people with disabilities in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT). The Web accessibility evolves and improves in parallel with the development of ICT and legislation, the latter has played an essential role in ensuring its design. The empirical study is carried out by analyzing web accessibility manually and automatically using the Easy Check guide and the TAW tool. The web accessibility test checks compliance with the current web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1). Finally, the assessment of the usability of the user interface is developed using a heuristic guide based on the 10 heuristic principles of Jackob Nielsen (2005) and in heuristic guide of evaluation of websites by Hassan Montero and Martín (2003). It is a matter of determining if the Spanish public universities of the G9 group, at the academic level, offer information about the university through its website so that they can be visited by all people (students, teaching and research staff, administration staff, web users in general), regardless of whether or not they have some kind of disability. Unfortunately, the results have not been as good as might be expected from the web portal of these public institutions, taking into account the current legislation on web accessibility and the rights of people with disabilities. By not meeting all the criteria of success of the minimum level of compliance (A), the universities of the G9 group have much to improve in the accessibility and usability of their website to comply with the UNE-EN 301549: 2019 standard, the Real Decree 1112/2018 and Royal Legislative Decree 1/2013.
