Educación sexual: diseño de una investigación para explorar las actitudes de padres, madres y tutores/as legales de adolescentes en Cantabria

Abstract

RESUMEN: La sexualidad es una característica central del desarrollo integral de las personas. Todos/as los/as niños/as y adolescentes tienen el derecho a recibir educación sexual, y sus familias constituyen la primera fuente que debe proveerla. Sin embargo, algunos/as padres, madres y/o tutores/as legales señalan que no cuentan con los conocimientos y habilidades necesarias para hacerlo, y sienten vergüenza y temor al tratar estos temas con ellos/as. Sus actitudes hacia la educación sexual pueden estar influyendo en su rol como primeros/as educadores/as de sus hijos/as en esta temática, aunque sobre esto existen aún pocos estudios. Este trabajo presenta un diseño de investigación cualitativa que tiene como objetivo explorar las actitudes que padres, madres y/o tutores/as legales de estudiantes de 1° de Educación Secundaria de la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria tienen sobre la educación sexual de sus hijos/as. Con ese fin, se ha elaborado una guía de preguntas para realizar grupos de enfoque con ellos/as, que ha sido validada por expertos/as en el ámbito de la sexualidad y/o la educación en el contexto familiar, mediante el método Delphi. Los resultados que se obtengan al implementar este estudio podrían constituir una base para el trabajo con familias en el camino hacia hacer de la educación sexual integral una realidad.

ABSTRACT: Sexuality is a key characteristic of people´s integral development. Children and adolescents have the right to receive sex education, and their families are the first source that must provide it. However, parents or legal guardians state they do not have enough knowledge and skills to achieve that. Furthermore, they feel afraid of and embarrassed about discussing these issues with their children. Their attitudes towards sex education may be influencing their role as the first educators of their children on this issue. Incidentally, about that topic, there are not many studies. This work presents a qualitative research design that aims to explore the attitudes that parents or legal guardians of 1st year Secondary Education students from the Community of Cantabria have towards children´s sex education. For this purpose, a set of questions has been drawn up to run focus groups with them. This set of questions was validated by experts in the field of sexuality or education in the family context by means of the Delphi method. The results of this research may lay the foundation for working with families towards a comprehensive sexuality education.
