Análisis isotópico de carbono y nitrógeno en secuencias de dentina y de estroncio en esmalte procedente de restos humanos prehistóricos de la cueva de Los Canes (Cabrales, Asturias)

Abstract

RESUMEN: En dientes procedentes de la cueva de Los Canes se realizaron tanto dataciones radiocarbónicas como análisis de los isótopos de estroncio 87Sr/86Sr en esmalte dental, y análisis de los valores isotópicos de 𝛿15N y 𝛿13C en secuencias de dentina. Los primeros mostraron una agrupación en torno a dos momentos: el Mesolítico y la Edad del Bronce (periodo Medio y Final) así como un único individuo mucho anterior procedente del Magdaleniense, todos ellos locales. Los resultados de los valores isotópicos de 𝛿15N y 𝛿13C en dentina mostraron tres tipos de alimentación: una basada en el consumo de recursos marinos en el individuo magdaleniense únicamente, otra basada en recursos terrestres de origen C3 en los individuos datados en el Mesolítico y el Bronce Medio, y una tercera basada en recursos terrestres donde se introdujeron los recursos C4 de manera generalizada entre la población durante el Bronce Final. Además, el estudio de las secuencias de dentina ha permitido analizar la dieta durante la infancia, permitiendo observar procesos como el destete y momentos de estrés en la vida de los individuos.

ABSTRACT: The following analysis were performed in teeth from Los Canes cave: radiocarbon datation, 87Sr/86Sr strontium isotopes in dental enamel, and incremental dentine analysis of the 𝛿15N y 𝛿13C isotopical ratios. The radiocarbon datation showed that mosto f the individuals were from the Mesolithic period as well as the Bronze Age (Intermediate and Final), as well as only one magdalenian individual, all of them locals to the surroundings of the cave. The results of the incremental dentine analysis of 𝛿15N y 𝛿13C ratios showed three types of diet: the first one based on marine resources only in the magdalenian individual, A second one based on C3 terrestrial resources during the Mesolithic and the Intermediate Bronce Age, and a third one during the Late Bronze Age also based on terrestrial resources where the introduction of new C4 resources happened among the population. In adittion, the study of the dentine sequences allowed to analyse the diet of the individuals during the childhooh, providing further information about weaning patterns as well as stress moments in those years.
