La Cultura hebraica de la muerte en la Edad Media

Abstract

RESUMEN En la Edad Media la concepción y la proximidad de la muerte fue común para todas las sociedades, pero especialmente para los judíos, quienes tuvieron que hacer frente a innumerables amenazas que les hicieron afrontar el Más Allá, teorizándolo a través de una religiosidad donde la muerte abarcaba un protagonismo inusitado. Este trabajo analiza los elementos más importantes que contribuyeron a construir el ideario religioso de los judíos sobre la muerte, desde la religiosidad judía medieval hasta la liturgia fúnebre, los testamentos, la literatura relacionada con la muerte y la calamidad de la Peste Negra. A través de estos puntos se obtiene una idea fiel de lo que debió de representar la muerte para los judíos en época medieval.

ABSTRACT In the Middle Ages the conception and proximity of death was common for all societies, but especially for the Jews, who had to face innumerable threats that made them face the Hereafter, theorizing it through a religiosity where death covered an unusual role. This work analyzes the most important elements that contributed to building the religious ideology of the Jews about death, from the medieval Jewish religiosity to the funeral liturgy, the testaments, the literature related to death and the calamity of the Black Death. Through these points a faithful idea of what death must have represented for the Jews in medieval times is obtained.
