Las políticas culturales republicanas en el País Vasco y la Provincia de Santander durante la Guerra Civil

Abstract

RESUMEN En el presente trabajo se analizan algunos de los aspectos clave para entender las políticas culturales desarrolladas en el País Vasco y la Provincia de Santander mientras estos territorios formaron parte de la retaguardia republicana durante la Guerra Civil (1936-1937); concretamente: la protección del patrimonio histórico-artístico, el fomento de la cultura inmaterial, el desarrollo del patrimonio audiovisual y la gestión de la educación. Esta acotación geográfica resulta especialmente interesante debido al aislamiento que sufrieron ambas provincias durante la contienda y a las diferencias administrativas que existían entre ellas, puesto que mientras la Provincia de Santander permaneció bajo el control de los distintos gobiernos centrales republicanos, el País Vasco contó con un Estatuto de Autonomía propio que le cedía las competencias en materia cultural.

ABSTRACT Certain key aspects are analysed in the present paper to understand the cultural politics developed in the Basque Country and the Province of Santander while these territories were part of the republican rearguard during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1937). Those key aspects are the protection of the artistic heritage, the encouragement of the inmaterial culture, the development of the audiovisual heritage and the management of education. This geographical limiting is especially interesting because of the isolation that both regions suffered during the war and the existing administrative differences between them. The Province of Santander stayed under the control of the different republican governments that took place during 1936-1937, while the Basque Country was allowed to run its own cultural politics due to its Statute.
