El proceso nacionalizador en España y su repercusión en la construcción de identidades regionales complementarias en el primer tercio del siglo XX: el caso de Cantabria

Abstract

RESUMEN: El tema en torno al cual se centrará esta investigación es la construcción de la identidad regional cántabra dentro del contexto de nacionalización español. La historiografía, siguiendo la línea abierta en las últimas décadas del siglo XX por Benedict Anderson en Imagined Communities y Michael Billig en Banal Nationalism, ha prestado especial atención a las expresiones del proceso de construcción de identidades que, frente a aquellas «conscientes», coexisten en la vida de las personas y forman parte de la cultura y la vida cotidiana. Por ello, el objeto de este trabajo es el análisis de las manifestaciones del proceso de construcción de la identidad nacional española y, por consiguiente, del proceso de nacionalización promovido por el Estado, así como las manifestaciones de similar índole que pudiese mostrar el proceso de creación de una identidad regional cántabra. De igual modo, la relación entre ambas identidades, sus puntos de contacto y, en caso de que las hubiese, sus diferencias, son de gran interés para el análisis de dichos procesos.

ABSTRACT: The main field of research of this investigation is the construction of the Cantabrian regional identity within the context of Spanish nationalization. Historiography, following the line opened in the last decades of the 20th Century by Benedict Anderson in Imagined Communities and Michael Billig in Banal Nationalim, has paid special attention to the sort of expressions of Nation-building process that –in opposition to those characterized as «conscious»- coexist in the life of the people and are part of the culture and everyday life. For this reason, the purpose of this work is to analyse those manifestations of the Spanish Nation-building process and –consequently- of the official nationalization, as well as the manifestations of a similar nature that the process of creating a Cantabrian regional identity could have shown. Similarly, the relationship between both identities, their points of contact and –if any- their differences are of great interest for the analysis of these processes.
