Determinantes de la eficiencia del fútbol español

Abstract

RESUMEN: El fútbol español ha ocupado históricamente una posición destacada en el panorama mundial de este deporte. Su impacto socioeconómico en términos del PIB es del 2% aproximadamente, esto es, 2 de cada 100 euros que se generan en España provienen de La Liga. Este trabajo tiene como finalidad analizar la eficiencia de un conjunto de jugadores de la Liga española de fútbol. Con este objetivo, se empleará la técnica del Análisis Envolvente de Datos para una muestra de 22 jugadores de fútbol entre las temporadas 2014-15 y 2017-18, tomando como inputs la edad, el precio de compra y los minutos jugados de cada jugador; y, como outputs, los goles, asistencias y el valor de mercado. Como principales aportaciones de este trabajo, destacamos la relación directa existente entre el tiempo de juego y el precio de compra respecto a la eficiencia. El ranking de jugadores más eficientes está encabezado por Messi, seguido por Gareth Bale, Luis Suárez y Cristiano Ronaldo. Son las “estrellas” mundiales, por lo tanto, las que ocupan los primeros puestos en términos de eficiencia, tal y como cabría esperar. En el duelo particular entre Messi y Cristiano, es el argentino el que consigue un mayor índice de eficiencia.

ABSTRACT: Spanish football has historically occupied a prominent position in the world scene of this sport. Its socioeconomic impact in terms of PIB is approximately of 2%, that is, 2 out 100 euros generated in Spain come from La Liga. This work has as purpose to analyze the efficiency of a group of players of the Spanish football league. With this objective, we will use the Data Envelopment Analysis for a sample of 22 soccer players between the 2014-15 and 2017-18 seasons, taking as inputs the age, the purchase price and the minutes played by each player and, as outputs, the goals, assists and the market value. As the main contributions of this work, we highlight the direct relationship between the time of play and the purchase price with respect to efficiency. The ranking of the most efficient players is headed by Messi, followed by Gareth Bale, Luis Suárez and Cristiano Ronaldo. The world "stars", therefore, are the ones who occupy the first positions in terms of efficiency, as one would expect. In the particular duel between Messi and Cristiano, it is the argentine who achieves a higher efficiency rating.
