En el presente proyecto se desarrolla un estudio sobre la viabilidad de
construcción y utilización de una instalación de almacenamiento y posterior
distribución de Gas Natural Licuado (GNL) a buques y transporte terrestre en
el Puerto de Santander. La intención es aprovechar la situación y tráfico
marítimo del Puerto de Santander para servir a buques o transporte terrestre
como punto de distribución y suministro de GNL en la zona.
En los últimos años, el uso de Gas Natural Licuado está suponiendo una
buena alternativa a los combustibles tradicionales usados en buques. El no
contener azufre y la disminución de las emisiones de NOx y CO2, son algunos
de sus destacados beneficios algo, que ha supuesto un decidido apoyo
institucional por parte de la Unión Europea a través de estudios y fomento de
infraestructuras.
Se considera al Puerto de Santander y a toda la zona del Mar Cantábrico como
un buen punto estratégico para el uso y distribución de este combustible
alternativo. Se trata de zonas actuales o de cercana implantación de la ley
ECA sobre áreas de reducción de emisiones de NOx y CO2 de buques de alta
mar estipuladas por el Convenio MARPOL.
Por esta razón, el estudio incluye en primer lugar, un análisis sobre el Gas
Natural Licuado como combustible marino, sus métodos de transferencia,
almacenamiento, cadena logística, sistemas de licuefacción, ventajas frente a
otros carburantes, normativa de sus instalaciones, potenciales consumidores
y otros puntos de interés. En segundo lugar, se realiza un estudio de las
alternativas de estos criterios aplicados a la posible instalación en el Puerto
de Santander.
The present project shows a feasibility study on construction and use of a
storage facility and subsequent distribution of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to
vessels and land transport in the Port of Santander. The purpose is, to take
advantage of the situation and maritime traffic of the Port of Santander to assist
vessels or land transport as a point of distribution and supply of LNG in the
area.
Over the last years, the use of Liquefied Natural Gas is being a good
alternative to traditional fuels used on ships. The lack of sulfur and the
reduction of NOx and CO2 emissions are some of its outstanding benefits,
which has meant a strong institutional support from the European Union
through studies and infrastructure development.
The Port of Santander and the entire Cantabrian Sea area is considered a
good strategic point to use and distribute this alternative fuel. These are current
or near-implementation areas of the ECA law in which NOx and CO2
emissions in high seas vessels should be reduced as the MARPOL
Convention required.
For this reason, the study includes firstly, an analysis of Liquefied Natural Gas
as marine fuel, its methods of transfer, storage, logistics chain, liquefaction
systems, advantages over other fuels, regulations of its facilities, potential
consumers and other points of interest. Secondly, an overview of the
alternatives of these criteria applied to the possible installation in the Port of
Santander carried out.
