Efectividad del Tratamiento Mediante Toxina Botulínica en la movilidad y función de pacientes neurológicos con espasticidad en Miembro Superior

Abstract

RESUMEN: Introducción. El tratamiento mediante toxina botulínica para la espasticidad es actualmente uno de los métodos de elección principales. Existen numerosos estudios sobre la eficacia del uso de la toxina botulínica en la espasticidad, mientras que los cambios en la función y calidad de vida de los pacientes no han sido suficientemente contrastados. Objetivo. El objetivo del estudio es valorar la eficacia para la rehabilitación funcional tras el uso de la toxina botulínica tipo A (TB-A) en pacientes con espasticidad en miembro superior. Estrategia de búsqueda. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos electrónicas: Medline, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Índice Bibliográfico Español en Ciencias de la Salud (IBECS), Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS), Cochrane Library y Trip Database. Se seleccionaron un total de ocho artículos para su posterior revisión. Resultados. El uso de TB-A en pacientes con espasticidad en miembro superior se muestra útil para reducir la espasticidad, incrementar la función y aumentar la capacidad funcional global, contribuyendo a una facilitación para la realización de tareas básicas. Los cambios en la calidad de vida son discutibles. Conclusiones. Tras la intervención con TB-A es importante seguir investigando sobre los cambios producidos en la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Los tratamientos de fisioterapia son eficaces en la rehabilitación y deben ser analizados, añadir electroestimulación no muestra beneficios adicionales.

ABSTRACT: Introduction. The botulinum toxin treatment for spasticity is currently one of the principal methods of choice. There are numerous studies about the efficacy of botulinum toxin in muscle spasticity, while the changes in the function and quality of life of the patients have not been sufficiently tested. Objective. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy for functional rehabilitation after the use of botulinum toxin type A (BT-A) in patients with upper limb spasticity. Search strategy. A literature search was performed in the electronic databases: Medline, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Spanish Bibliographic Index of Health Sciences (IBECS), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Cochrane Library and Trip Database. A total of eight articles were selected for review. Results. The use of TB-A in patients with upper limb spasticity is useful to reduce spasticity, improve function and increase the overall functional capacity, contributing to facilitation for perform basic tasks. The changes in the quality of life are debatable. Conclusions. After intervention with TB-A is important to continue research on changes in the quality of life of patients. Physiotherapy treatments is effective in the rehabilitation and must be analyzed, the use of electrostimulation not show additional benefits.
