Exposición ocupacional de las enfermeras a los citostáticos

Abstract

RESUMEN : Dado que los citostáticos son unas sustancias que inhiben el desarrollo de las células cancerosas, pero que no solo actúan sobre las células malignas, sino que también afectan a todas las células del organismo provocando efectos adversos, las enfermeras encargadas de su manipulación se ven en constante riesgo ocupacional. Por ello, el objetivo general de esta monografía será describir los riesgos del personal enfermero asociado a la manipulación de medicamentos citostáticos. Esta monografía consta de cuatro capítulos; se abarcarán distintos temas como el circuito por el que pasan los medicamentos citostáticos, las vías por las cuales una enfermera puede contaminarse con una sustancia citostática, los riesgos que conllevan para los profesionales el manejo de los citostáticos, teniendo en cuenta el nivel de exposición y la toxicidad del fármaco y las distintas medidas de bioseguridad que deben aplicarse, cuya finalidad es proteger la salud del personal, pacientes y medio ambiente frente a los riesgos físicos, químicos y biológicos a los que se exponen diariamente en su trabajo. Todo ello, evidenciará la existencia de un riesgo grave para la salud de los profesionales asociado a la exposición de los medicamentos citostáticos, del requisito de proteger a los trabajadores con unas buenas medidas de bioseguridad y la necesidad de seguir investigando hasta conseguir que sean inexistentes los efectos perjudiciales en la salud de los manipuladores de citostáticos.

ABSTRACT : Given that cytostatics are substances that inhibit the development of cancer cells, which do not only act on malignant cells, but also affect other cells of the body causing adverse effects. The nurses who are responsable for the cytostatic drugs, are in constant occupational risk. For that reason, the general objetive of this monograph will be to describe the risks of the nursing staff associated with the handling of cytostatic drugs. This monograph consists of four chapters; different topics will be covered, such as: the circuit through which cytostatic drugs go through, the way in which a nurse can be contaminated with a cytostatic substance the risks that cytosttaic drugs pose for professionals, taking into accouunt the level of exposure and the toxicity of the drug and the different biosecurity measures that must be applied, whose purpose is to protect the health of staff, patients and the environment against the physical, chemical and biological risks to which they are exposed daily in thes work. All this will show existence of a serious risk to the heath of professionals associated with the exposure of cytostatic drugs, the requirement to protect workers with good biosecurity measures and the need to continue investigating until thet are non-existent harmful effects on the health of cytostatic handlers.
