Análisis de la financión y gastos de defensa de la Alianza Atlántica

Abstract

RESUMEN: Tras la desaparición de la Unión Soviética, muchos teóricos de las Relaciones Internacionales afirmaban que la Organización del Tratado Atlántico Norte iba a desaparecer, su mayor rival había desaparecido y con él, su motivo de existir. Después de casi 30 años desde ese momento, no solo no ha desaparecido sino que tiene aún más relevancia en el panorama internacional. En este trabajo se pretende entender cuáles han sido los motivos de continuación de la OTAN, que nuevos objetivos se han marcado y con qué recursos llevan a cabo estas nuevas misiones. Además, se estudiara la financiación común de la OTAN para saber si el actual sistema es eficiente o necesita una revisión, como hacen ver Reino Unido y Estados Unidos en sus constantes quejas sobre la repartición de los costes comunes.

ABSTRACT: After the demise of the Soviet Union, many International Relations theorists claimed that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was going to disappear, as its biggest rival had disappeared and with it, its reason for existing. After almost 30 years since that moment, not only is it appreciated that it has not disappeared but it has even more relevance in the international scene. This paper aims to understand which were the reasons for continuation NATO's, what new objectives have been set and with what resources these new missions carry out. In addition, NATO's common funding will be studied to know if the current system is efficient or needs a revision, as the United Kingdom and the United States do in their constant complaints about the sharing of common costs.
