Maurice Sendak: Una segunda lectura de su obra más representativa

Abstract

RESUMEN Maurice Sendak (1963 - 2012), escritor e ilustrador de álbumes ilustrados, ha obtenido gran fama de forma reciente. Una de sus obras más representativas, “Donde viven los monstruos” (1960), puede encontrarse hoy en día en cualquier Centro Educativo de Infantil y Primaria. Y es utilizado para la creación de jornadas educativas, proyectos, unidades didácticas y otras actividades de carácter educativo. Sin embargo, aunque las historias que relata en sus obras son aptas para el público infantil. Hay una segunda lectura, más profunda, dirigida al adulto como figura de referencia y educador. Donde se transmiten conceptos, como el valor de las capacidades que tiene el niño o la figura de este, como un igual al adulto. Por lo tanto, sus creaciones no van dirigidas a la infancia de forma directa y sus ideas hacen de Sendak, un autor adelantado a su época.

ABSTRACT Maurice Sendak (1963-2012), writer and illustrator of graphic and illustrated albums, has acquired a great reputation and prestige recently. One of his most representative works, "Where the Wild Things Are"(1960), can be found in any Kindergarden or Primary School, and it is used for creating projects, educational days, lesson plans and other educational activities. However, despite the fact that the stories of his work are suitable for children, there is a second lecture, a deeper one, more focused on the adults as reference figures and educators, lecture in which some concepts are transmitted, such as the value of the capabilities of the child or his figure, putting him/her at the same level of an adult. Because of this, his creations are not directly meant for the childhood, and his way of thinking and his ideas makes him a figure ahead of his time.
