Análisis del Brexit: antecedentes e impacto económico

Abstract

RESUMEN: La salida de Reino Unido de la Unión Europea marca la entrada a un escenario hasta ahora desconocido ya que, hasta la celebración del referéndum británico en el año 2016 y su posterior resultado, ninguno de los 28 países miembros habían tomado la firme decisión de abandonar la comunidad que había logrado, entre otras cosas, fortalecer la cohesión entre países en materia económica y social, así como establecer un mercado común y una unión monetaria. Sin embargo, la relación entre Reino Unido y la Unión no ha sido nunca fácil, como veremos a continuación. Este vínculo se ha visto seriamente afectado en los últimos años y así es como el gobierno británico decidió celebrar, por segunda vez desde que entraran a formar parte, un referéndum en el que decidir si permanecer en la UE o salir de ella. El resultado, aunque ajustado, fue claro: Reino Unido abandonaría la Unión Europea. El objetivo que se persigue con este estudio es analizar esta situación haciendo un breve repaso por la historia reciente de Reino Unido, de forma que nos lleve hasta los principales problemas con los que el país se ha topado dentro de la Unión, así como evaluar el impacto que esta nueva realidad provocará en la economía.

ABSTRACT: The exit of United Kingdom from the European Union supposes the entrance into an unknown scenario. Until the conclusion of the British referendum in 2016 and its later result, none of the 28 members countries had taken the firm decision to leave the community that had managed, among other things, strengthen the cohesion between countries in economic and social matters, as well as to establish a common market and a monetary union. However, the relationship between the UK and the EU has never been easy, as we will see later. This link has been seriously affected in the last years and that is the reason why the British government decided to hold, for the second time, a referendum in which deliberate whether continue in the European Union or leave it. The result, although it was close, was clear: The United Kingdom would leave the European Union. The objective of this study is to analyze this situation doing a brief review of the recent history is the United Kingdom. In this way, we will study the main problems that the country had encountered within the Union, as well as evaluate the impact that this new reality will cause in the economy.
