Los primeros hitos de una cultura regional moderna: el desarrollo cultural de Cantabria entre 1918 y 1931

Abstract

RESUMEN Este trabajo tiene como fin acercarse al panorama cultural de las primeras décadas del siglo XX en Cantabria, especialmente en lo que se refiere a la labor de las instituciones culturales creadas a lo largo de dicho periodo y su papel en el desarrollo cultural de la región, así como del surgimiento de una conciencia cultural que acabó trasladándose al plano político con posterioridad. Del mismo modo, se abordará el surgimiento de la cultura de masas y la irrupción de las vanguardias, y cómo su instalación en una región considerada tradicional permitió el cambio de los paradigmas culturales. La evolución de un entramado cultural que no se encontraba especialmente desarrollado a comienzos de siglo pero que en pocos años fomentó la formación en el extranjero de algunos de sus miembros y permitió la modernización de los cánones regionales, hasta el punto de constituir las bases sobre las que se desarrolló posteriormente el debate regional, son las dos líneas de análisis sobre las que desarrollaremos nuestra investigación.

ABSTRACT This work aims to approach the cultural landscape of the first decades of the 20th Century in Cantabria, especially in what refers to the labour of cultural institutions created during the period and its role in the cultural development of the region, as well as the emergence of a cultural awareness that ended up moving to the political level. Similarly, the emergence of mass culture and the emergence of the Avant-garde will be addressed, and how their installation in a region considered to be traditional allowed the change of the cultural paradigms. The evolution of a cultural network that was not specially developed at the beginning of Century but in a few years it fostered the training abroad of some of its members, and allowed the modernization of regional cannons to the extent that constitute the foundations on which the regional debate subsequently evolved, are the two lines of analysis that we will develop in our research
