Constantinopla: génesis y evolución de una capital imperial

Abstract

RESUMEN El presente trabajo analiza la fundación y evolución inicial de la ciudad de Constantinopla. Para llevar a cabo esta tarea, en primera instancia se estudia la figura del emperador Constantino, su vida política, su relación con el cristianismo y los cultos paganos que profesa en las distintas etapas de su gobierno. En segundo lugar, se examina el contexto geográfico de la ciudad y sus antecedentes históricos, para posteriormente analizar el proceso de construcción de Constantinopla, la nueva Roma, desde el año 324 hasta el 330. Finalmente, se realiza un análisis detallado de los monumentos más reseñables de la nueva capital del imperio en el momento de su fundación.

ABSTRACT The present study analyses the foundation and initial evolution of the city of Constantinople. To carry out this analysis, firstly, the figure of the emperor Constantine is studied, as well as his political life, his relationship with the christianity and the pagans cults that he professed during his government. Secondly, the geographical context and the historical background of the city are analysed. Once this part is concluded, the construction process of Constantinople, the new Rome, from 324 to 330, is examined. Finally, the present work shows a detailed analysis of the most important monuments of the new capital of the empire at the time of its foundation.
