La expansión aragonesa en el Mediterráneo en la Edad Media. De Mallorca a Nápoles (1229-1442)

Abstract

RESUMEN El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el proceso de expansión de la Corona de Aragón entre los siglos XIII y XV, así como sus causas y motivaciones, además de las consecuencias para el equilibro de poderes en el Mediterráneo y de la glorificación de la imagen de Alfonso V, que culminó el proceso en 1442. Para ello, hemos dividido el trabajo en tres partes fundamentales: la expansión de la Corona de Aragón en los siglos XIII-XIV, la conquista de Nápoles (1421-1442) y la propaganda sobre la imagen de Alfonso el Grande tras este último acontecimiento. Gracias a este TFG, hemos podido concluir que la expansión aragonesa fue un acontecimiento causado por la ambición de los mercaderes catalanes para conseguir nuevos mercados y por la voluntad regia de expandir el territorio tras el “encajonamiento” de la Reconquista frente a Castilla. También hemos podido inferir que la toma de Nápoles supuso la culminación de todo este proceso en el siglo XV con la llegada de una nueva dinastía que cambió la modalidad de expansionismo por un modelo más “imperialista” y con vocación de imitar a los césares romanos.

ABSTRACT The goal of this essay is to analyze the Aragonese expansion between the Thirteenth and the Fifteenth Centuries, its causes and motivations, as well as the consequences for the balance of power in the Mediterranean and the glorification of the image of Alfonso the Fifth, who finished the process in 1442. In order to achieve that, we have divided the essay in three main parts: the Aragonese expansion in the Thirteenth and the Fourteenth Centuries, The conquest of Naples (1421-1442) and Alfonso the Great’s propaganda. Thanks to this essay, we can conclude that this event was caused by the ambition of the Catalan merchants to find new markets and the royal wish of expanding the territory after the Reconquista’s constriction. We can also see that the conquest of Naples was the culmination of this process in the Fifteenth Century, with the arrival of a new dynasty, which changed the model of expansionism for a more “imperialist” one and with the goal of imitating the Roman Caesars.
