Energy efficiency of a traditional house in northern Spain. Proposal and improvement analysis for energy savings.

Abstract

In this Final Degree Project, the study of the energy efficiency of a house in northern Spain has been conducted. First, a research on energy efficiency, providing data on the current global energy context, the Spanish energy demand is made. Then some of the most important energy saving measures and the energy efficiency in the building sector with information about the corresponding energy certification, as well as its legal framework. Once concluded the investigation, a real practical study case will be executed, where the energy consumption of a house is analysed, considering the distribution of the energy: systems demand, focus in envelopes' energy losses to issue an energy certificate; with the purpose of improving its energy rate and reduce CO₂ emissions by doing modifications of the building and its systems. For that purpose, first, a research on energy efficiency in its global context is done and then focus it on energy in Spain, where energy offer-demand management, improvement measures, and energy efficiency in the building sector considering certification and legal framework are analysed. Then, the energy efficiency of the real house is rated and a series of measures to improve its efficiency and profitability are proposed. As a result of improvements implementation, a comparison between the energy efficiency of the original house and the energy efficiency of the enhanced one complete the study. Finally, conclusions are made based on the study of energy efficiency of housing as well as the data obtained from it.
