Desigualdades económicas en la República de Chile, 1990-2016

Abstract

RESUMEN: El presente trabajo analiza la distribución de los ingresos en la República de Chile, motivado por la paradoja de una situación en la que coexisten altos niveles de desarrollo, altos niveles de ingresos per cápita y una de las tasas de desigualdad más altas de Sudamérica. El estudio se centra en el periodo entre 1990 y 2016, y realiza un análisis descriptivo sobre los indicadores de desigualdad a nivel nacional y regional. Por lo tanto, en este trabajo existe una perspectiva inter-regional e intra-regional. La fuente de datos usada para los indicadores son las encuestas CASEN (Encuesta de Caracterización Socioeconómica Nacional) (Ministerio de desarrollo social, 2015). Los resultados del análisis sobre desigualdad revelan la existencia de heterogeneidad en la distribución a nivel territorial, destacando una gran diferencia entre las regiones del norte y las demás. Otro importante hallazgo es la relevancia de la Región Metropolitana sobre el desempeño total de la nación, debido al gran porcentaje de población total que vive en esta región. Así como la poca relación entre la desigualdad y los niveles de pobreza en Chile.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of the following thesis in to synthesize about the inequality in the income distribution within Chile, motivated by the paradox of a situation in which high levels of development, high levels of income per capita and one of the highest levels of inequality of South America coexist. The studied period is focused between 1990 and 2016, a descriptive analysis about the inequality indicators is developed at national and regional levels. Thus, in this thesis we analyse through an inter-regional perspective and through an intra-regional perspective too. The data source used for the indicators are the CASEN surveys (National Socioeconomic Characterization Survey) (Ministerio de desarrollo social, 2015). The results reflect the existence of heterogeneity in the distribution of inequality among the territorial level, emphasizing the great gap between north regions and the rest. Another important fact is the relevance of the Metropolitan Region on the evolution of the nation, result of the great percentage of the total population who lives in this region. There is low correlation between inequality and the levels of poverty in Chile.
