La arquitectura de los centros docentes en Cantabria en los siglos XIX y XX

Abstract

RESUMEN: La investigación analiza las diversas variables que convergen en la arquitectura docente en Cantabria en los siglos XIX y XX. Se articula en cinco capítulos en los que se abordan las relaciones entre la arquitectura escolar y las políticas educativas recogidas en los diferentes marcos legales aplicables; se revisan las tipologías a lo largo de las distintas épocas en función de las propuestas pedagógicas, de las políticas educativas y del proyecto; se refleja la importancia de los promotores privados, especialmente por el legado indiano y jándalo y por las órdenes y congregaciones religiosas, así como la promoción pública del Estado y de los ayuntamientos y por último se recoge la actividad de los arquitectos que proyectaron los edificios. Además se ha recopilado la documentación sobre los proyectos escolares del Archivo Histórico Provincial de Cantabria y de los archivos municipales para catalogar, analizar y digitalizar los planos que contienen, a fin de preservarlos como documento gráfico y se ha presentado una somera catalogación de imágenes sobre los centros docentes de Cantabria.

ABSTRACT: This PhD dissertation analyses a number of characteristics that are common to School Architecture in Cantabria in the 19th and 20th centuries. Articulated in five chapters, it deals with the relation between school architecture and the educational policies included in several applicable legal frameworks. Typologies during that time are revised according to the pedagogical proposals and the educational policies and projects. The importance of private sponsors is reflected, especially that of the ‘indiano’ and ‘jándalo’ legacies, and that of religious orders and congregations, as is the importance of the State and the Councils involvement. The activity of the architects who designed the buildings is also studied. Besides, documentation about school projects has been gathered from the Cantabria Provincial Historical Archives and the Councils’ Archives, in order to classify, analyse and digitalise the blueprints they have, so that they can be preserved as a graphic document with a brief cataloguing of images of schools in Cantabria.
