Proyección del turismo slow en las ciudades europeas: análisis de la ciudad de Cambridge

Abstract

RESUMEN: En este trabajo, se ha tratado de profundizar en el concepto del turismo slow así como en las oportunidades que presenta, su presencia y su desarrollo en Europa a través de una Red Europea de Ciudades de Mediano Tamaño. Para ello, se ha escogido un caso práctico concreto, analizando una de las ciudades que pertenecen a dicha red de colaboración, la ciudad de Cambridge en Reino Unido. Los objetivos principales del análisis son determinar si efectivamente Cambridge encaja en esta propuesta, cómo se desarrollan en ella las bases del turismo slow y la influencia o impacto de este sobre la ciudad. A lo largo de este estudio, se han analizado las características de dicha ciudad, comparándolas con los estándares que requieren el concepto slow y la red de colaboración europea entre ciudades. Además de esto, se han dado a conocer los distintos proyectos y medidas que se han tomado y se tomarán en el futuro, para promocionar este destino turístico como una ciudad slow de referencia en Europa. Como resultado, se podría concluir que mediante el proyecto de la red europea de colaboración, se está tratando de favorecer el turismo en las ciudades que pertenecen a la misma. En este fin, el concepto slow juega un papel decisivo ya que constituye un reclamo turístico diferencial, que está ganando cada vez más importancia y popularidad, permitiendo a estas ciudades competir en el mercado del turismo europeo. Para finalizar, se concluye que la ciudad de Cambridge es efectivamente un digno exponente del turismo slow en el continente, que, aunque con puntos a mejorar como la comunicación online, está llevando a cabo medidas en distintos ámbitos para promocionarse, crecer como ciudad y atraer a más visitantes en el futuro.

ABSTRACT: In this work, we have tried to deepen the concept of slow tourism as well as the opportunities it presents, its presence and its development in Europe through an European Network of Medium Size Cities. To this end, a concrete case study has been chosen, analysing one of the cities belonging to the collaboration network, the city of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The main objectives of the analysis are to determine whether Cambridge actually fits into this proposal, how the bases of slow tourism develop and the influence or impact of this kind of tourism on the city. Throughout this study, the characteristics of that city have been analysed, comparing them with the standards that require the slow concept and the network of European collaboration between cities. In addition to this, the various projects and measures that have been taken and will be taken in the future, have been announced to promote this tourist destination as a slow reference city in Europe. As a result, one could conclude that through the European Collaborative Network project, efforts are being made to favour tourism in the cities belonging to it. To this end, the slow concept plays a decisive role as it constitutes a differential tourist claim, which is gaining increasing importance and popularity, allowing these cities to compete in the European tourism market. Finally it’s concluded that the city of Cambridge is indeed a worthy exponent of slow tourism in the continent, which, although with improving points such as online communication, is carrying out measures in different areas to promote itself, grow as a city and attract to more visitors in the future.
