El Sevirato Augustal en Hispania y Las Galias

Abstract

RESUMEN: El sevirato augustal fue una institución de carácter semioficial que se desarrolló durante los siglos I y III d.C., sobre todo en las ciudades de la mitad occidental del Imperio romano. Sus miembros eran principalmente libertos enriquecidos vinculados a las actividades artesanales y comerciales. Por medio del análisis de las inscripciones epigráficas de Hispania y Galia referidas al sevirato augustal, esta tesis doctoral trata cuestiones como la variada terminología de los seviros augustales, su distribución geográfica y diversas características regionales y locales, el estatus jurídico de los seviros augustales a partir de su análisis onomástico, su promoción social y las distinciones y jerarquías internas de esta institución, los oficios que constituían la base de la riqueza de sus miembros, sus numerosos actos evergéticos como indicador de su ascenso social, las particularidades de sus relaciones familiares y personales, la debatida función religiosa de la augustalidad o la movilidad geográfica de sus miembros.

ABSTRACT: The seviratus Augustalis was a semiofficial institution that was developed between 1st and 3rd century AD, especially in the cities of the Western half of the Roman Empire. Its members were mostly rich freedmen linked to craftwork and commercial activities. Through the analysis of the epigraphic inscriptions from Hispania and Gallia related to the seviratus Augustalis, this PhD thesis studies different questions, such as the diverse terminology of the seviri Augustales, their geographic distribution with its regional and local peculiarities, the juridical status of the seviri Augustales through their onomastic study, the social promotion and the distinctions and internal hierarchies of this institution, the professions that were the basis of the wealth of its members, their numerous evergetic actions as a sign of their social ascent, the particularities of their familiar and personal relations, the debated religious function of the Augustality or the geographic mobility of the seviri Augustales.
