Lectura y Escritura de Literatura Autobiográfica en el aula de inglés de la EOI

Abstract

RESUMEN El valor de la literatura en el proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras está siendo cuestionado hasta tal punto que en la mayoría de las aulas ésta tiene un papel secundario. Sin embargo, en este trabajo defenderemos el rol esencial y los beneficios que la literatura, y en concreto, la literatura autobiográfica, puede aportar al aula de idiomas. Así, a través de este género caracterizado por su carácter íntimo y personal, los discentes tendrán la oportunidad de mejorar su competencia lingüística mientras se enfrentan a la tarea de autodefinirse, de indagar sobre su identidad, desarrollando, a la vez, una capacidad crítica entre lo real y lo ficcional, entre el arte y la realidad.

ABSTRACT The value of literature in the teaching and learning process of foreign languages is being questioned to the extent that it is being smoothly removed from most English language classrooms. However, in this paper we will defend the benefits that literature and more specifically, autobiographical literature, can offer to learners. Through this genre, characterised by its intimate and personal features, students will have the opportunity, not only to improve their linguistic competence, but also to face the daunting task of self-definition, to explore their identities while developing a critical attitude, to raise awareness of the many different perspectives a single event may have, and above all, to distinguish between reality and fiction; that is, the interplay between art and reality.
