Del aula al monte. La enseñanza de la Geografía y la Educación Ambiental a través de rutas de montaña y senderismo.

Abstract

RESUMEN La realización de excursiones y salidas de montaña es un buen método de enseñar Geografía y en España ya fue propuesta y desarrollada hace más de un siglo por la Institución Libre de Enseñanza. Sin embargo esta herramienta pedagógica tan interesante apenas se ha utilizado por los centros de Secundaria, pues la Educación Ambiental se ha desarrollado normalmente al margen del sistema educativo. Tras revisar el origen del montañismo en España y el desarrollo de la Educación Ambiental en Cantabria, a modo de estado de la cuestión, se realiza una propuesta educativa de rutas para la enseñanza de la Geografía y la Educación Ambiental en los centros de Secundaria del entorno de la Bahía de Santander. En el ámbito de la educación formal se proponen tres itinerarios didácticos para realizar por profesores y alumnos en días de clase, en media o una jornada. Y en el ámbito de la educación no formal se vincula a los centros de Secundaria con los grupos de montaña locales y los programas de voluntariado y Educación Ambiental ofertados por el Gobierno de Cantabria (PROVOCA y NATUREA), para facilitar que los jóvenes se incorporen a ellos, descubran la naturaleza y adquieran hábitos de vida saludables.

ABSTRACT To take an excursion to a place we would like to visit or to go trekking in the mountains are a good way to teach (and learn) geography. In Spain, they were first introduced and developed as such by the Institución Libre de Enseñanza in the last decades of the XIX century, but this educational tool has hardly been used in Secondary Education. It has flourished nevertheless –along with Environmental Education- outside the School system. Having researched the birth of mountaineering in Spain in general (and the expansion of Environmental Education in Cantabria in particular) we are able to suggest a set of educational trekking routes most suitable for teaching Geography and Environmental Education for Secondary Education students in Santander´s Bay area. For formal education we are able to suggest three educational routes for teachers and students alike in their scholastic days: two of them can be achieved in half day and the third one requires a full day. For the non-formal education we aim to link Secondary Education institutions with local mountaineering groups and volunteering programs offered by the Government of Cantabria, such as PROVOCA and NATUREA. We believe that joining them would help the students to increase their awareness of nature and develop healthy ways of life at the same time.
