La subtitulación como herramienta activa para el aprendizaje de inglés

Abstract

RESUMEN: Este trabajo se centra en facilitar el uso de la subtitulación como herramienta activa en el aprendizaje de inglés en la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (EOI) de Santander. Comienza con una revisión bibliográfica sobre la naturaleza de la subtitulación y sobre el potencial de la creación de subtítulos para el aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras. Asimismo, se comprueba que este recurso didáctico es coherente con lo establecido en los currículos de las enseñanzas de idiomas. Una vez asentadas las bases teóricas, se exponen dos estudios llevados a cabo sobre el uso de la subtitulación como herramienta activa para el aprendizaje de inglés en la EOI de Santander. En el primero, se analizan las experiencias y opiniones previas de profesores y alumnos. De esta forma, detectamos que esta herramienta era poco conocida. No obstante, observamos interés y algunas formas de facilitar su inclusión en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. En el segundo estudio, pusimos en práctica dos secuencias didácticas basadas en actividades de creación de subtítulos con alumnos que cursaban los niveles B1 y C1. La valoración de estas actividades fue muy positiva e invita promover la inclusión de la subtitulación como herramienta activa en el aprendizaje de inglés.

ABSTRACT: The focus of this dissertation is on facilitating the use of subtitling as an active tool for English learning at the Official School of Languages in Santander. It starts with a literature review about the nature of subtitling and the potential of applying the creation of subtitles to foreign language learning. Furthermore, it is verified that this didactic resource is coherent with the syllabuses of the Official School of Languages. Once the theoretical framework is established, two studies about the use of subtitling as an active tool for English learning at the Official School of Languages in Santander are explained. The first one analyses the previous experiences and opinions of teachers and students. I detected that this tool was barely known. However, interest in it and some ways of facilitating its inclusion in the learning process were observed. In the second study, I implemented two didactic sequences based on activities for creating subtitles with students of levels B1 and C1. The assessment of these activities was very positive and invites the promotion of subtitling as an active tool in English learning.
