Características del mercado laboral juvenil antes y después de la recesión

Abstract

RESUMEN: La situación laboral española cambió su ritmo tras el estallido de la crisis económica allá por 2008, año de inicio de esta recesión y a partir del cual se han perdido más de 2 millones de puestos de trabajo hasta la fecha (primer trimestre de 2017). En este caso analizaré el sector de la población formado por los jóvenes (16 a 29 años), los cuales serán los próximos principales integrantes del mercado de trabajo español. Comenzaré contextualizando el tema, desarrollando la evolución de las principales características del sector más joven de la población, como son la distribución demográfica y el nivel de cualificación a lo largo de estos últimos años. Tras esto, realizaré con un análisis descriptivo del mercado de trabajo juvenil: niveles de actividad, de ocupación (absoluta, por rama de ocupación y por nivel de estudios), la calidad del empleo juvenil (tipo de contrato, salarios y tipo de jornada) y los niveles de desempleo juvenil (absoluto, por sector económico y por duración). Al término de este análisis descriptivo se abordarán las principales consecuencias producidas por la transformación del mercado laboral, como son la emigración juvenil y la sobrecualificación. Por último, se llega a la conclusión de que mientras los jóvenes han aumentado sus niveles de cualificación el mercado de trabajo sigue disminuyendo (20 por ciento más de paro juvenil) y empeorando la calidad de los empleos (creciente temporalidad, descenso de salarios y de la jornada completa), provocando la cada vez más común emigración juvenil y la sobrecualificación en los puestos de trabajo.

ABSTRACT: The Spanish labor situation changed its pace after the outbreak of the economic crisis back in 2008, the year of the beginning of this recession and from which more than 2 million jobs have been lost to date (2017). In this case I will analyze the sector of the population formed by young people (16 to 29 years), who will be the next principal members of the Spanish labor market. I will begin by contextualizing the theme, developing the evolution of the main characteristics of the youngest sector of the population, such as the demographic distribution and the level of qualification over the last few years. After this, I will do a descriptive analysis of the youth labor market: levels of activity, occupation (absolute, by branch of occupation and level of education), quality of youth employment (type of contract, salaries and type of working day) and levels of youth unemployment (absolute, by economic sector and duration). At the end of this descriptive analysis I will talk about the main consequences of the transformation of the labor market, such as youth migration and overqualification. Finally, it is concluded that, while young people have increased their qualification levels, the labor market continues to decline (20 percent more youth unemployment) and the quality of the jobs are worsening (increasing temporality, declining wages and the duration of the working day), provoking the more and more common emigration of young people and the overqualification of jobs.
