¿Qué piensan las familias gitanas sobre la Educación infantil? Estudio de caso en Cantabria.

Abstract

RESUMEN: Durante las últimas décadas, numerosos cambios se han producido en nuestra sociedad. Dichas variaciones han afectado a nuestro estilo de vida, y han supuesto que tengamos nuevas formas de concebir diferentes aspectos de la vida cotidiana. En España, dichos cambios se han producido, aunque no repercutiendo de igual manera, en los diferentes grupos culturales que conforman dicha sociedad, estando entre ellos el grupo étnico gitano. Uno de estos cambios ha sido respecto al concepto que se tiene acerca de la etapa educativa no obligatoria de Educación Infantil, en la cual actualmente el 100% de los niños son matriculados y que, paulatinamente, ha ido cobrando más importancia a pesar de que, hasta el día de hoy, ninguna ley educativa española ha determinado que esta etapa sea obligatoria. El presente informe tiene como objetivo principal explorar el concepto que tiene actualmente la cultura gitana respecto a la educación infantil. Para ello, se va a llevar a cabo un estudio cualitativo en dos localidades de la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria con un porcentaje significativo de población de origen étnico gitano. Concretamente, se han entrevistado a dos familias de etnia gitana y a una maestra no perteneciente a este grupo pero que trabaja usualmente junto a ellos. El estudio determinó que actualmente este grupo minoritario responde muy positivamente hacia esta etapa educativa, y que sus concepciones sobre la educación en general se han transformado a la par que lo hacían sus costumbres.

ABSTRACT: During the last decades, many changes have occurred in our society. Such variations have affected our lifestyle and have meant that we have latest ways of conceiving distinct aspects of everyday life. In Spain, these changes have occurred, although not affecting in the same way, the diverse cultural groups that makeup that society, being among them the gypsy ethnic group. One of these changes has been in relation to the concept of the non-compulsory educational stage of Early Childhood Education, in which 100% of children are now enrolled at this stage and which has gradually become more important with the passing of even though, to this day, no Spanish education law has determined that this stage is mandatory. The present report has as main objective to determine the concept that the gypsy culture has now with respect to the education of children. For this, a qualitative study will be carried out in two localities of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria with a sizable percentage of the population of gypsy ethnicity. In this study, two gypsy families were interviewed and one teacher not belonging to this group. This study determined that at present this minority group responds very positively to this educational stage and that their conceptions about education, in general, have been transformed along with their customs.
