La comunidad musulmana inmigrante de Torrelavega (Cantabria): Discurso y práctica socioeducativa

Abstract

RESUMEN: En los últimos años los inmigrantes musulmanes han adquirido una notable presencia numérica en España, al tiempo que han despertado una creciente atención y han centrado buena parte de los debates sobre la integración de la población extranjera en el país. En este trabajo tratamos de mostrar las principales características de la inmigración musulmana: en primer lugar, la presencia de musulmanes inmigrantes en España; en segundo lugar, las razones que llevan a estos grupos a emigrar a España; y, en tercer lugar, cómo suele ser su proceso de integración una vez que se instalan aquí, así como su relación con las escuelas. Asimismo, el autor analiza las formas de inserción de los inmigrantes musulmanes en el nivel local, así como las demandas culturales del colectivo generadas en ese proceso y asociadas a la práctica del Islam en un contexto no musulmán.

ABSTRACT: In recent years Muslim immigrants have acquired a notable numerical presence in Spain, while they have attracted increasing attention and have focused much of the debates on the integration of the foreign population in our country. In this research, we try to show the main characteristics of the Muslim immigration. In the first place, the presence of immigrant Muslims in Spain; Second, the reasons that lead these groups to emigrate Spain; And, thirdly, how it is usually their integration process once they are installed here, as well as their relationship with schools. The author also analyzes the forms of insertion of Muslim immigrants at the local level, as well as the cultural demands of the collective generated in that process and associated with the practice of Islam in a non-Muslim context.
